Welcome! I've loved writing since I was a child and was drawn to grant writing during college as a way to merge my desire to help create a better world with my love of language and communication. I have been writing grants ever since by working and volunteering for many nonprofit organizations over the past two decades.
As a grant writer, I am dedicated to helping organizations raise the funds they need to make a difference in their communities. I am especially eager to support teams that are committed to anti-racism, that understand and address the systemic roots of inequalities, and that center the agency and dignity of their program beneficiaries. Given my privileges as a cis white woman, I am committed to my own ongoing learning and un-learning about racism, ableism, capitalism, colonialism, and other oppressive systems.
I am a North Carolina native living in Durham with my partner and two young children. When I'm not writing grants I enjoy reading, yoga, and being outdoors.

I work from the unceded land of the Eno, Tutelo, Saponi, Occaneechi, and Shakori Native people. I acknowledge the ancestral and present land stewardship and place-based knowledge of the peoples of these territories.
Grants can be a great source of support for nonprofit organizations but applying is often time consuming and overwhelming for anyone balancing many responsibilities. With my experience finding and applying to grants for a variety of organizations, I know how to build a strong proposal that will increase your chances of being funded. I would love to help you find grant opportunities and submit winning proposals.
For organizations who need ongoing help managing all aspects of the grants process, including prospect research, creating proposals and reports, and managing a grant calendar.
For clients who manage most of their grant needs internally, I provide expert support with large proposals, creating content for new grant projects, and advising on the grant process.
For organizations in need of new funding sources, I can develop a comprehensive prospect list of the funders most likely to support your cause.

“Working with Carynne has been monumental for our organization. Her attention to detail, responsiveness, and creativity has made a world of difference in our grants program. She provides excellent work and is also always available to answer questions and truly values moments to teach us and pass on her skills.”
— Liz Snyder, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill
“Carynne has been an integral part of the success of our grantwriting efforts. Her attention to detail and her tenacity in keeping us on task have translated into concrete positive results. She understands the mission as well as the financials, enabling us to tell our story meaningfully and accurately to potential funders.”
— Suzi Bevacqua, Assistant Director, The Green Chair Project
“Carynne's work with CEF has been vital to sustaining our growth. She communicates our complex, nontraditional programs in clear terms. In addition to being very responsive and conscientious, she has also been a valuable partner in strategy, and helped to streamline and improve our processes. Her support enabled CEF to secure our largest three funding opportunities in just the past two years.”
— Janet Xiao, Co-Director, Community Empowerment Fund
“I'm so grateful to have had the chance to work with Carynne. She listens well, grasps the essence of programs, and is able to communicate their value to funders in language they understand. In work where people with big hearts are sometimes short on details, Carynne's attention to the entire process is invaluable.”
